The UX Centre of Excellence is creating a design system to improve the quality and consistency of our digital products. This system will also make it easier to create prototypes - early models of websites or applications - throughout the development process.
Our research shows that teams across the University need better tools for prototyping, rather than more front-end templates or technical guidance. Many existing projects already use established front-end systems, but there are fewer tools and skills available to help teams quickly design and test ideas.
Because of this, our first priority is to build a prototyping tool that supports everyone involved in developing digital products. This will help at every stage of the process and benefit a wide range of roles:
Business Analysis
- Shorter time and easier learning for creating prototypes and wireframes

- Clearer communication of ideas with stakeholders

- Ability to reuse prototypes across different projects

Quality Assurance (Testing)
- Better understanding of the solution, reducing time spent on test planning

- No need to repeatedly test common UX patterns and solutions

Project Management
- Clearer view of project progress

- Easier updates and explanations for stakeholders

- Business Change Management

- Simpler way to understand and give feedback on design solutions

Technical Development
- Clearer design direction, leading to lower development costs and higher-quality results
