Due to a change in the OpenAI configuration, all ChatGPT Edu users who have their accounts associated with an department email rather than SSO will now have to login with their email as username and password.
Steps to recover access to your account
- Navigate to chatgpt.com
- Click “Login”
- Enter your department email address (in the format of first.last@dept.ox.ac.uk) and hit “Continue”
- Click the “Forgot password?” button
- Verify your email is correct and hit “Continue”
- You should receive an email to reset your password, which will subsequently allow you to log into your account (please choose a unique and secure password for this)
- Some users may receive a request for a confirmation code to be sent to their email before you can login
Troubleshooting
Here some possible errors and how to deal with them.
- If you do not receive the password reset email, please check you Junk Mail. If you still do not receive a message please let us know. Make sure you include the email you requested the new password for to enable us to check it is the correct address associated with your account.
- If you receive an Authentication Error when attempting to login with the new password try one of these two:
- Refresh the screen and try again
- Try again in a different browser or in an incognito mode / private browsing session to rule out cache or cookie problems.
