Wellbeing focus groups to inform student support services

University staff are often the first point of contact for students, and as such, can play a significant part in supporting student mental health. The Staff Support and Student Well-Being Study aims to use focus groups to assess support needs for student mental health and wellbeing from both a student and staff perspective.

As part of a collaboration between Nurture-U, the Psychiatry Department and Student Welfare and Support Services, staff members at Oxford are invited to join an unpaid focus group, either online or in-person, to share their perspectives on mental health.

Information shared in the focus groups will help to better understand the needs of students and may inform the development of University services and resources designed to help staff members support student wellbeing.

This study is funded by the Medical Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council. The overall study is expected to be completed by approximately November 2028. Preliminary results will be shared at annual intervals before this date. If you would like a brief summary of the results, please write to the team at nurture-u@psych.ox.ac.uk to request information.
