The Confident Manager series

A table with topics relevant to being a confident manager

Focused on people management excellence – and aimed at supporting managers at all levels across the University – the modular approach enables participants to shape their learning journeys around key areas relevant to their role and context.

By bringing a modular approach to this series, we hope that managers are more able to access sessions as and when they are able, and importantly, when each module is most relevant to them.

The series consists of six optional modules that are currently delivered as in-person sessions, together with 60–90-minute online masterclasses delivered by subject matter experts.

The foundation module, ‘Managing at Oxford’, is designed to help people managers understand and demonstrate the core skills and behaviours needed to effectively manage at the University. It covers key topics including expectations of effective managers at Oxford, the employee lifecycle, setting objectives, giving feedback and having Personal Development Reviews and career conversations.

Additional modules include ‘Developing Teams’, ‘Enhancing Performance’, ‘Coaching Skills for Managers’, ‘Managing Change’ and ‘Essentials of People Management in Research’.

You can read more about each of these modules, including their aims and objectives, on POD's dedicated webpage

Book your place

We were delighted to fill all 350 places on our Michaelmas term modules, with many staff joining the waiting list. A further 160 colleagues joined us for online masterclasses on topics including 'Thriving at Oxford', 'Occupational Health Overview' and 'Leading Continuous Improvement'.

As demand for in-person places is currently high, please read about our booking process before signing up. This helps us ensure that places are not lost through last-minute cancellation or non-attendance.
