The Online Education Hub offers expertise and support for developing world-leading online courses - from concept through to evaluation and beyond - and was launched at Oxford’s Digital Festival on 14th November 2024.
The Hub is part of Oxford’s investment in Digital Transformation, and the University of Oxford’s strategic ambition to increase innovation in education and to extend the global reach of Oxford’s educational opportunities.
Professor Anne Trefethen, Pro-Vice Chancellor, People & Digital, welcomed the team
"The digital age brings exciting possibilities for educators, researchers, and learners worldwide. Oxford’s educators know that opening our digital doors globally means connecting previously unconnected students, researchers, and collaborators in unprecedented ways. Having said that, many of them also fear that enhancing digital education may bring an additional burden on already hard-pressed academic and professional services staff. That’s why I’m delighted that our digital transformation has helped create Oxford’s new Online Education Hub to work alongside the Centre for Teaching and Learning and Continuing Education. Oxford educators can now better blend our physical and digital dimensions to create world-class online education experiences."
Mat Tinker, Head of the Online Education said:
“Online education can be a really effective way to share Oxford's teaching and research excellence with the world, while providing new revenue streams for departments. The Online Education Hub exists to support course teams in achieving their ambitions. Whether you want to create or improve smaller, non-accredited courses, or larger award-bearing courses, the Hub can help you and your team to discover, design, build, market, deliver, and manage world-leading online courses that offer a distinctively Oxford experience.”
With a flexible and agile approach, the Hub applies expertise in market insight, digital pedagogy and data-led course evaluation to the individual needs of each course team. It can also connect course teams with other university stakeholders and external organisations who can play an important part in the process.
The Hub is keen to hear from colleagues about experiences of, and views on, online education, through a short five-minute survey. You can get in touch to arrange an informal chat with a member of the Hub team about how the new service can help you.
