Message of condolence from Teresa Hatton

Message of condolence from Teresa Hatton, Bodleian Library

It is hard to think of another who has so diligently lived a life following such a strong moral code. An ethos of dedication, duty and responsibility at all times. The crown was obviously a heavy burden to bear, but Her Majesty did so with strength and pride. I extend my condolences to her family. We were her people and grieve for her but His Majesty, the King, was above all else her son, and he has lost his mother. I hope they are given time and space to grieve quietly and privately and to remember their mother, grandmother and great grandmother as she was to them, not only as she was to us.
