Message of condolence from Dr Nigel Elliott and Mrs Diane Elliott

Message of condolence from Dr Nigel Elliott and Mrs Diane Elliott, Trinity College, history (student, 1969-1976)

On behalf of my wife and myself, I write to express our deep sorrow on the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Our Queen's seventy-year reign spans nearly the whole of our lives. We have grown up with her as our monarch. Her life was one of dedicated service to this nation and the Commonwealth built upon her abiding sense of Christian faith: an exemplar of leadership performed with grace, humility and, where there was conflict, reconciliation. We express our sympathies for King Charles and all the royal family at this time of such personal loss, which is also a time of great public duty, which collectively they are performing with dignity and quiet emotion. The nation's response to the Queen's death has been overwhelming and is testimony to the high regard in which she is held by all, including by those who may not support the institution of monarchy but who nevertheless hold personal respect for her as an individual and her life of service.
