Chancellor: changes to election process

Changes are being made to align the arrangements for the election of a Chancellor of the University with the other election made by Convocation (the election for the Professor of Poetry) and to increase inclusivity.

Full details of the changes to the Council regulations 8 of 2002 concerning Convocation elections – which include changing the voting to an online system – are available from the Oxford University Gazette.

The Gazette also includes details of a proposal to limit the timespan of the role of the Chancellor of the University. This is in recognition of the role being an unremunerated post and to permit the flexibility to alter the duration of the period of office – to prevent the coincidence of a newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and a new elected Chancellor. This proposal is subject to approval by Congregation members.
