Following Oxfordshire County Council’s recent announcement of a public consultation on proposals for a temporary congestion charge in central Oxford, the University has arranged two online briefing sessions with County Council officials. These provide the opportunity to find out about what is proposed and how it could affect you.
Briefing session details with MS Teams joining links:
Thursday 26 June: 3.30pm to 4.30pm
Monday 30 June: 11.30am to 12.30pm
The briefings will be identical, comprising a short presentation on the proposals from Craig Rossington, Senior Transport Planner, followed by a Q&A session. There is no need to book a place – just add the time to your calendar and then use the Teams link above to join the session of your choice. The sessions will be recorded and made available online for the benefit of staff who cannot attend.
The proposed congestion charge scheme would be introduced in autumn 2025, as an intermediate step ahead of the planned trial of traffic filters once Botley Road has re-opened – this is now expected next year. The County Council believe it would provide benefits including less traffic, faster and more reliable bus services, safer roads for pedestrians and cyclists and reduced air pollution.
More details are available on the Council’s website.
The consultation period starts on Monday 23 June and will run for six weeks.
The Travel team within Estates Services will be monitoring the impact of the proposals on the University; contact the team at travel@admin.ox.ac.uk.
