Building our first Oxford-wide intranet

About OxIntranet

Internal content is currently spread across multiple websites, SharePoint sites, and other systems, making it difficult for staff and students to find the information they need.

OxIntranet will change this by providing a secure, user-friendly platform that brings together internal information from across Oxford’s colleges, departments and divisions.

This will make it easier for staff and students to find what they need  from policies, training, and guidance, to University news and digital tools.

By consolidating content and improving visibility, it will reduce duplication and simplify day-to-day work and study.

What to expect

When OxIntranet arrives, you’ll notice:

  • A clearer structure for finding news, policies and resources
  • Improved navigation and search capabilities
  • Personalised content based on your role and location
  • Seamless links to the digital tools you already use, like Teams and Outlook

Building our intranet over time

OxIntranet will launch in early Michaelmas term with the overall structure in place  allowing you to navigate to different parts of the University, and to core systems and applications. There will also be in-depth content for all staff in specific topics; as well as pilot sites from departments and colleges.

More content will then be migrated during the 2025/26 academic year  with a focus on information relevant to all staff, and then students. The gradual migration of departments and colleges will also follow.

Technology that works for you

OxIntranet is built on SharePoint technology  which means that it will work seamlessly with other Microsoft applications. We have enhanced our current SharePoint offering, with additional functionality, more consistency and more support for site owners  improving the experience for everyone who uses it.

Part of our digital transformation

OxIntranet is part of Transforming Oxford’s Digital Communications; a programme of work designed to streamline internal and external communications channels so that staff, students and external visitors can keep up-to-date on what’s happening across the university, and ultimately support our academic mission.

It also plays a key role in delivering Oxford’s new Digital Content Strategy, ensuring information is clear, accessible and consistent across platforms.

More details about OxIntranet will follow ahead of launch. If you would like more information at this stage, sign up to the upcoming briefing on Wednesday 17 September, or go to the project webpage.
