In light of recent developments, including the Supreme Court ruling about the legal definition of a woman in the Equality Act, the University of Oxford is carefully reviewing our policies and practices concerning transgender inclusion and equality. The University does this regularly to ensure they remain compliant with the law and reflect good practice.
We would like to reaffirm that the University is committed to being a place where everyone belongs and is supported to succeed. We strive to maintain an environment in which the rights and dignity of all members of our community are respected.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission issued an interim update on 25 April, and will be providing an updated Code of Practice by the end of June for ministerial approval. In the meantime, the University will continue our review of policies and practices, which includes reviewing existing facilities across our estate. We will provide updates on any changes to our policy and practices that are introduced as a result of this review and the EHRC’s updated Code of Practice.
Oxford remains committed to being an inclusive university, in which everyone is treated with respect, courtesy and consideration. We will continue to welcome students, staff, alumni and visitors from all backgrounds, including all members of the LGBTQ+ community.
