The University has followed with interest recent developments including the Supreme Court’s ruling about the legal definition of a woman in the Equality Act.
We understand the strength of feeling within our community about this matter.
We would like to reassure you that the University of Oxford is committed to being a place where everyone belongs and is supported to succeed. We strive to maintain an environment in which the rights and dignity of all members of our community are respected.
The University reviews its policies and practices regularly. Following the recent Supreme Court ruling and the Office for Students' decision concerning the University of Sussex, we are carefully reviewing our policies and practices to ensure they remain compliant with the law and with guidance from regulators. This includes consideration of the interim update of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, which was published on Friday 25 April.
Oxford remains committed to being an inclusive university. We will continue to welcome students, staff, alumni and visitors from all backgrounds, including all members of the LGBTQ+ community.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
There are a number of welfare services available to staff seeking support. These are confidential and free of charge, and are summarised on the Looking after you webpage.
