We are shocked and saddened by yesterday’s attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, which took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Our thoughts are with those affected and with the Jewish community in Manchester and across the UK.
We know that many of you, particularly Jewish students and colleagues, will be feeling distressed by these events. Please be assured that the University takes your safety and wellbeing very seriously. We are here to support you and encourage you to make use of the services available if you need them.
There is no place for antisemitism at Oxford. We reject all forms of hatred based on race and religion. We expect all members of our community to treat one another with dignity and respect.
Emergency contact information and sources of support for staff and students are listed on the University website.
Students can also refer to our inclusive student life pages to find out more about our approach to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment at Oxford. This includes information about how the University understands antisemitism, drawing upon the working definition outlined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
