The AI and Machine Learning Competency Centre have recently launched the AI Ambassador programme, bringing together colleagues from across the University into a growing network of AI users who can act as local points of contact for their departments or colleges. On Thursday 10 April, they held their in-person launch event, attended by 40 of the new AI Ambassadors. The event provided an opportunity for the Competency Centre team to engage directly with participants, helping to shape the programme’s focus and goals.
Who are the AI Ambassadors?
The initial group includes over 70 colleagues from across all divisions, including GLAM, Continuing Education, UAS, and several colleges. All Ambassadors are active AI users, working with University-supported tools in their day-to-day roles. This network is expected to grow to encompass additional areas of the University.
What do the Ambassadors do?
Within their departments, AI Ambassadors can take on several roles. In addition to serving as key contacts for colleagues with questions about AI, they can advise on best practices and appropriate usage. Some Ambassadors may offer training sessions or act as mentors to others in their teams. In partnership with the AI and Machine Learning Competency Centre, Ambassadors also provide valuable insights into how AI is being used across the University, helping the Centre tailor its support and resources more effectively.
How can an Ambassador help me?
Whether you’re just beginning to explore AI tools or already using them and looking to exchange ideas, your local AI Ambassador can be a trusted point of contact. With knowledge of your department’s specific context and systems, they’re well-placed to offer relevant advice and guidance. They can also connect you with other resources and support available across the University.
