Message of condolence from Sarah Skeels

Message of condolence from Sarah Skeels, Department of Biology, Wolfson College

Queen Elizabeth II is a truly inspirational figure, whose mark on the UK and global stage has been tremendous. It is remarkable that she became the figure she is today, given that she came to the throne so unexpectedly at such a young age, and in a time when women rarely held such prominent roles in society. The fact that she did it with such quiet dignity is admirable. She had the rare ability to connect with people regardless of their walk of life, which has meant that her passing has felt so personal to so many people. There will never be anyone quite like Queen Elizabeth II. I feel lucky to have lived at a time when she was Queen. I send my deepest sympathies to the Royal Family at this sad time, and I wish King Charles III the very best in his new role.
